This work uses vinyl, found objects and acrylic on plexi-glass to portray a whimsical juxtaposition of subject, color, texture and dimension. I seek to find balance, or imbalance in these compositions. I am using circus/carnival silhouettes as representations for moments in life. As a wife, mother, teacher and artist I am in a constant state of flux and amusement. I identify with the juggler who must maintain a perfect rhythm so she doesn’t drop anything, the tightrope walker who is struggling for balance, the children on the swings being propelled forward with joy and wonder and the acrobat that must time their moves with precision to avoid falling. It is through this body of work I am experimenting with playful whimsy to illustrate themes of hope, loss, laughter, worry, movement and progression. Enjoy!
I hope that you will join me for the Portland Love Show! I am looking forward to participating in this diverse group exhibition. The show will be held at Gallery Homeland 2505 SE 11th Ave Portland, OR on the evening of February 12th at 7pm. See info below
ABOUT THE SHOW
The Portland Love Show began in February 2006 at Launch Pad Gallery with the goal of creating a safe and engaging space to highlight the many different types and attitudes that abound about love. The show was initially a response to the annual deluge of heterosexist, consumerist, romance-centric advertising that Americans experience each year leading up to Valentine’s Day, but over the course of the last 5 years, it has evolved into a diverse art happening in the hands of the participating artists. For more information about the show visit : Portland Love Show This years show features work by OVER 300 ARTISTS

The Portland Love Show is presented by Launch Pad Gallery, Po'Boy Arts, Chris Haberman Presents, and Gallery Homeland with support from Ninkasi Brewing, PDX Pipeline, KBOO 90.3 Community Radio and Phoenix Media
Open the DOOR to Sustainability is a unique art show that I am thrilled to take part in. This fundraising event is to benefit The ReBuilding Center (one of my favorite "art supply" stores in Portland) and Sustainability. Inspired by the work of renowned NW artist LeRoy Setziol, artists from the local region are creating works of art from reclaimed doors. These doors, along with many other exciting things, will be auctioned at the event. Here is the door that I have created for the show, titled "outsiders". For more information about this event please visit Open the DOOR to Sustainability
Open the DOOR to Sustainability :

TWO OF HEARTS- Artist: Michelle Colbert
I have recently participated in the Portland Project: Art in Hand. The Portland Project is an amazing deck of playing cards showcasing the wide range of extraordinary artistic talent found in the greater Portland area. Each standard sized playing card depicts a one-of-a-kind work of art by local Portland artist who created a card in their own distinct style. In the end, 54 different artists came together to create a mini art collection to display or use to play your favorite card games. Decks are on sale at New Seasons and at select retailers in the Portland area. For more information about the deck or to interact with the artists and get in on some secret contests, become a Fan on Facebook.
All of the original artwork will be auctioned off to raise money for the charity of choice for the artist. I have selected the Oregon Art Educators Association! If you would like to bid on the original artwork for this card please visit biddingforgood auction home Auction begins Monday April 26th, 2010 and ends Saturday May 22nd, 2010!
